HOW TO FEEL YOUR FEELINGS

HAVE YOU BEEN HAVING SOME BIG FEELINGS? Have you been honoring them, ignoring them or shoving them down?

It’s amazing how our mind settles when we set the intention and make an conscious effort to just be in the moment. I invite you to focus on being ok with going with the flow and just trust what comes.

This exercise came about from a fairly emotional day with my four year old. He was having some BIG feelings (ahem defiance) and he didn’t have the words to tell me what was really going on in his big world. After some tearful journalling I thought wow, this totally happens to me too. Sometimes it can take me a few days for me to sort out some of my own big feelings with words. This exercise helped me identify the feelings and sit with them for awhile.

IMAGINE some of the BIG feelings you’ve been feeling and how you’d like to honor them during this exercise.

Let’s get started. YOUR feelings are valid. YOU deserve the time and space to feel them. YOU are worthy.

After walking yourself through this exercise you will have named some of your BIG feelings and have a better understanding of what you need to honour and truly feel them.

Three ways to get in touch with your feelings:

  1. Spontaneous journalling
    Get into a quiet space. Get our tour journal and favorite pen. Write everything that comes to mind (without judgements or censoring). Write till you have no more words. Finish with the sentence: I am feeling… and trust the word that comes.

  2. Spontaneous collage
    From your latest magazine or newspaper thumb through the pages and choose at least six images or words. Arrange (without too much thinking) on paper. Glue. Reflect about what this collage could mean in your life.

  3. Listen to a playlist

  4. Make a feelings playlist - for when you’re angry, happy, joyous, feeling free, etc. listen when you need to honor that feeling.
