Art as therapy for mothers in Canada.

a non-clinical approach for women who are ready to regulate + rediscover who they are.

Navigate the highs and lows of motherhood with grace.

After working with hundreds of mothers, I've seen how challenging it can be to regulate your emotions and feel authentic in motherhood.

You started with hopes and dreams, but now? You're juggling more balls than a circus act. How do you handle the big feelings? The endless demands? The guilt of not being enough?

I've been there, and I understand. The struggle is real.

Your struggles as a mother are not because you lack the supermom gene or because you're not good enough. It's because you haven't been given the right resources to overcome the struggle and finally feel good enough!

What is art as therapy?

Expressive art therapy, also referred to as "art as therapy" or "therapeutic art," is an evidence-based and non-clinical approach to processing emotions and experiences. It involves using creative tools such as painting, collage, movement, voice, writing, music, and drama to facilitate self-discovery and expression. Unlike traditional therapy, which relies heavily on talking, expressive art therapy allows women to express their thoughts and emotions without words.

My Therapy Style:

I'm a neurodiverse, creative, feminist therapist and mom who doesn't shy away from the hard stuff. I don't follow traditional clinical practices, so I won't diagnose you or use medical treatment models. Instead, I care about the process and what you need from it. I blend principles from social work and expressive art therapy with the concepts of mindfulness and feminism.

Through expressive art therapy I’ll help you regulate your emotions, boost your mood and find yourself (again).

I'm passionate about helping moms who have lost themselves in motherhood because I've been there.

As someone who has used art as a form of therapy for as long as I can remember, I know it will revolutionize your life.

Let me help you find your inner "good enough" and get you enjoying motherhood again.

Hey there mama! I’m Kayla Huszar

I’m a Registered Social Worker and Expressive Art Therapist, and I specialize in working with mothers.

Including pregnant, postpartum and parenting women, meaning if you have experienced pregnancy, surrogacy, adoption, fertility treatments, abortion, pregnancy loss, birth trauma, and/or a human baby has exited your body, you are welcome here. Once postpartum, always postpartum.

This also includes supporting women who are highly sensitive and/or parenting highly sensitive children (with or without a diagnosis of ADHD).

During every session, I learn something new about myself. She often has an inspiring quote, piece of wisdom, song to listen to, or book to explore to help with whatever I am struggling with.

I am currently accepting new art as therapy clients in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

You can claim 1:1 and group therapy on your benefits because I am a registered social worker in these two provinces.

If you are anywhere else in Canada, I call this Creative Coaching. All my education informs coaching, but you can't claim it on your benefits.

The process is quite simple if you're interested in trying it out.

  1. Book your no-cost 20-minute consult where I find out more about you, what keeps you up at night, and so on.

  2. If we are a good match, we will schedule a 90-minute first session. Once the date is confirmed, I will send you an agreement form to sign, a list of supplies, and invoice details.

  3. If you're interested in more sessions, we will schedule weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions. I recommend starting with at least 6 sessions together.

You won't get these days back; regulate and become the mother you want to be.

I have time in my schedule next week if you want to meet to discuss how art as therapy can regulate and revolutionize your motherhood.
Do you have time next week?

  • First, you'll give an update, and then we'll move on to a specific question, topic, or theme you want to explore. After that, we'll take a moment to chill and meditate, guided or unguided. Then, we'll get creative and make some art or do any other creative expression. After that, you'll reflect on what you made and write about it. Finally, we'll wrap it up by discussing what was created, the process, how you feel about it, and any 'ah-ha' moments or takeaways.

  • Preparing for virtual art as therapy sessions can be different than in-person sessions.

-Find a quiet and comfortable space with minimal distractions for our session. You don't have to sit at a desk or table. Use a posture and area that feels calming to you.

-Create an intention, come ready with a question or have a topic you want to focus on.

-Bring your art supplies. If you don't have any, let me know.

-Let the creativity and regulation flow through you!
