Counselling for Mothers

in-person in Leduc, Alberta + virtually across Canada

A woman sitting on a bed, smiling, holding a notebook and a pen, with a mug in her other hand, wearing casual clothes.

You’re juggling endless to-do lists, managing invisible emotional labor, and meeting everyone else’s needs.

But… despite your best intentions, you feel a little stuck, maybe invisible, a lot guilty and a touch burned out. Who has time for real self-care?

If you just keep going, researching, and scrolling for the “right” ways to be a “good” mother, you’ll find the magical solution and finally feel worthy and enough.

Sorry, mama – that’s not how this works.

You're a damn good mother.

The work of being a parent is so f*ing important and deeply serious.

You’re here because you’ve sacrificed a lot of your time to ensure that you are a good parent.
Yet you still don’t feel like it’s enough.

Something really amazing happens when you express yourself

"Kayla’s introduction to expressive arts opened up a whole new world for me.

I began to hear my own inner wisdom again and trusted it in ways I never thought I could. With her gentle and playful guidance, small changes started to emerge - changes that transformed my world and how I responded to it. What once felt intimidating, the art, has now become a safe default for processing my emotions. It’s given me room to breathe, whether life is at its best or its hardest."

What is Expressive Arts Therapy?

Think of it as a way to have a real, honest conversation with yourself - no talking required.

It's not about creating a picture-perfect piece of art; it's about picking up some markers, moving your body, or just letting your hands do their thing (and trust me, it's easier than it sounds). When you express yourself this way, you're cutting through the mental clutter and tapping into something deeper.

The best part? You're not here to be fixed (because you're not broken); you're here to rediscover the amazing woman you are underneath all those layers of expectation. And don't stress about doing it "right"—the beauty of expressive arts is that there's no right way to do it. It's about how it makes you feel.

  • Kayla is unlike other counselors I have seen. She cares, listens, and truly understands me. Her work is priceless in a society that pressures women to be perfect. She encourages vulnerability and self-exploration in a nonjudgmental and safe environment. Every session, I discover something powerful and new about myself. She often shares practical quotes, pieces of wisdom, songs, or books to help with whatever I am struggling with. - STEPHANIE

  • Every time I leave Kayla’s studio, I feel a sense of calm. Her presence brings me down to a level where I can be introspective and present in the moment. Kayla has made my postpartum period much more enjoyable. - JODY

  • Working one-on-one with Kayla creates a moment of oasis where my voice is heard, and my feelings are validated. Then, she helps me move forward in my journey of figuring out who I am now that I'm a mom. - DANIELLE

  • I thought I was aware of the postpartum depression (PPD) signs before I had my son, but the first 8 weeks were so shitty, and I didn't recognize myself. I didn't realize that I was experiencing PPD; it looked so different from my friends and my sister, and my "symptoms" were so unlike theirs. I didn't know what to do or where to go. I scored high on the EPDS screen at a routine check-up, and I knew I needed to do something about it. I went searching and found Kayla. She helped me understand my intrusive thoughts and didn't judge me or offer unsolicited advice. - KENDRA

  • Expressive art with Kayla, oh boy, where do I start? I really appreciate the questions she asks and how she can be herself during our sessions. Anxiety can affect anyone, and Kayla has helped me to make lots of art about it and heal it. I'm grateful to have her as my therapist. - CHANTAL

FAQ

  • The process is quite simple if you're interested in trying it out.

    1. Book your no-cost 20-minute consult where I find out more about you, what keeps you up at night, and so on.

    1. If we are a good match, we will schedule a 90-minute first session. Once the date is confirmed, I will send you an agreement form to sign, a list of supplies, and invoice details.

    2. If you're interested in more sessions, we will schedule weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly sessions. I recommend starting with at least 6 sessions together.

  • First, you'll give an update, and then we'll move on to a specific question, topic, or theme you want to explore. After that, we'll take a moment to chill and meditate, guided or unguided. Then, we'll get creative and make some art or do any other creative expression. After that, you'll reflect on what you made and write about it. Finally, we'll wrap it up by discussing what was created, the process, how you feel about it, and any 'ah-ha' moments or takeaways.
