Undermothered Therapy with Kayla Huszar
Your mom was there. And something was still missing.
You've been holding yourself together since you were little. This is what that costs.
Yes, benefit coverage eligible, too!
Not in AB, SK OR ON, Canada? Let’s get you where you need to be!
If this sounds like you
You're never allowed to be in a bad mood. You never get a break. And you can't think your way out of it.
You know what you should do. Slow down. Be present. Do less. You've heard it. You've said it to yourself a hundred times.
And you're still in your head at midnight. Still keeping yourself busy so you don't have to feel it. Still feeling like too much and not enough at the same time.
Nobody around you seems to understand why you can't just relax.
You weren't always like this. Or maybe you were - so early you thought it was just who you are.
You were scared and someone told you there was nothing to be scared of. You were sad and someone moved on quickly. You were angry and someone sent you to your room until you could act normal. Nothing terrible. Just a steady quiet message that your feelings were inconvenient.
So you learned to manage them instead of have them. And now you can't turn it off.
You don't want to stay stuck here. That's the whole reason you're reading this.
You can have a conversation with your mother and not need the rest of the day to recover.
Here's what changes
You stop bracing when her number comes up. You say the thing you actually mean instead of the thing that keeps the peace. You hang up and go back to your life.
You're allowed to be in a bad mood. You're allowed to need a break and say so. You stop keeping yourself busy so you don't have to think - because you're not scared of what's in there anymore.
You mother your kids from your own full self - not from the kid who learned that feelings were something to push through. You hold the limit at the playground and mean it. You stay in the room when they fall apart instead of shutting it down.
You ask for what you need. Clearly. Without the three-day negotiation first. Your partner hears you. Your kids hear you. You stop hinting and resenting when nobody picks up on the thing you couldn't say out loud.
You know what you're worth. You stop apologizing for taking up space.
We might be a fit if this sounds familiar.
Is this right for you?
You don't have a horror story. That's part of why it took so long to name this. It wasn't something that happened. It was a thousand small moments of your feelings being dismissed or ignored or rushed through.
You keep yourself busy so you don't have to think. You can't relax - you're too in your head. You can't think your way out of the intrusive thoughts or the rage or the overwhelm, and you've tried. You hold yourself to a standard you'd never apply to anyone else. You make yourself easy to be around and then feel invisible.
When your kids fall apart you either shut it down fast or freeze completely. You've read all the books. You know the scripts. And your body still doesn't know what to do when the feelings get big - because nobody ever showed you.
You love your mother. You're not here to blame her. You just don't want to stay stuck here.
There's only so much "do less" you can do when the thing underneath hasn't been touched. Slowing down doesn't help when slowing down means being alone with everything you've been outrunning.
This work goes there. To the actual source of the keeping busy and the can't relax and the feelings that won't turn off. Not to assign blame. Just to finally see it clearly enough to stop running it.
You don't have to stay stuck here.
This work asks you to look honestly at your childhood
including at a parent you love and have no interest in blaming.
If you're not ready for that yet, start with the podcast episode and come back.
If you're in active crisis, please reach out to your doctor or a crisis line first.

Meet your therapist
I'm Kayla Huszar.
I'm a registered social worker - featured in Maclean's Magazine (Apple News Best of 2025) and on CBC's The Current.
I came into motherhood as a Type A, people-pleasing, slightly anxious overachiever on a secret mission to be perceived as good and right. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to connect that to the girl who learned early to make herself easy. To need less. To be fine.
I'm not here to help you find a villain in your story. I'm here to help you find the pattern - and figure out what stops now.
The next step
If you're feeling drawn to this work, the next step is a free 20-minute conversation.
This is not a sales call.
We'll talk about what you're carrying and figure out together whether working with me makes sense - and if so, where to start.
Regardless of whether we work together, you'll leave with a clearer sense of what your next step is. Sometimes that's working with me. Sometimes it's something else. Either way, you'll know more than you do now.
Therapy for Moms
What’s Included
Regular Counselling - from $195/session
This is the ongoing work. We meet regularly - weekly or biweekly. We figure out where the pattern started and what it's been running ever since - the people-pleasing, the keeping busy, the can't-relax, the feelings that won't turn off. In-person in Leduc, AB or virtually across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. First session is 90 minutes. After that, 60 minutes. Direct billing available through Telus eClaims.
Not sure which is right for you? Book a free conversation and we'll figure it out together.
The shift this work creates
From your mother's daughter - to yourself.
Right now
Never allowed to be in a bad mood. Never getting a break. Keeping busy so you don't have to think. Can't relax. Can't think your way out of it. Don't want to stay stuck here.
After this work
Allowed to have a hard day. Asking for the break and getting it. Staying when it gets hard. Saying what you mean. Not passing it down.
